Lazy, hazy, buzy dayzies

Hey, sorry no posts, the world is spinning and I can't keep up right now. Too much going on. Anyhoo, via Twitter I ran across this really fun, funky, positive Detroit vid that I HAD to share. In other news, a buddy of mine came to Detroit from DC (former colleagues) to check out the auto show. I don't think he has missed a show in like 16 years. And he drives here! Now THAT, people, is dedication. How is it he is willing to make the commitment but the folks that live here can't? Riddle me that, folks. Manana fiance and I make the annual trip to Tiger Fest. He wants autographs, I want to drool over the man-candy. Can you say 5% body fat? ROWR.

Eight Mile, and not the movie

Sorry to be so boring, posting from the comfort of my couch. I worked at Ford Field all day yesterday for the Monster Jam event (super loud; super smelly) so did not get home until late yet again, then got up today and ran 6+ miles in 19 degree weather (heat wave!) so I'm a little off my game. What I learned today: at 8 mile and Woodward near the State Fairgrounds is Michigan's first ever-three-point intersection. I didn't make this up, there is an actual historic marker there. If you are driving on Woodward you can go up and over 8 mile, avoiding that interesection, or you can continue on Woodward or turn to 8 mile. Apparently in the 1950's it was such a busy intersection that the overpass was developed to help ease congestion. Pretty cool! What else I learned: drivers on Woodward will in fact give you your entire own lane if you are running in the street. Thank you, drivers! The sidewalks are still treachery with ice and snow. I certainly appreciate the kindness as it probably saved me from a broken something or other.

Getting Revved Up

Next week kicks off the North American International Auto Show, also known as NAIAS, here in Detroit. Local channel 4 did a preview this evening of what attendees can expect, including hot car launches and cutting-edge green technology. Porsche is back for the first time in three years and the industry itself is spending money on the event after several lean years. It is going to be an AWESOME show!!! Hope to see you there, I can't wait to sit in all the cool cars and inhale the sweet smell of new.

In all fairness....

Don't even know what to say......

Way to Spell, Cleveland!

Okay, this is pretty funny. I love Jhonny and he plays for Detroit now, but this old pic of him in his Indians jersey is awesome. Now, I can't just give grief to Cleve b/c the Washington Nationals had a similar incident, missing the "o" on several jerseys in 2009. Brilliant!

Cool, Creative Housing

It's not in Detroit, however, this house is right up the road from me and I've admired it many times. It's 5,600 square feet and absolutely gorgeous. http://www.hourdetroit.com/Hour-Detroit/January-2011/Motor-Home/index.php?cp=2&si=8

Soooooo cute!

Check out this adorable and hilarious video of a kitty playing in a paper bag. The face is too precious!

New Year, High Hopes

Check out this super neat post on Detroit-area resident's hopes for 2011. I have to say the article is truly inspiring and I'm fortunate to live with so many people who have such passion:

Run, run, run!!

Forgot, if you are a runner and have such an interest, registration for the annual Detroit half/full marathon is 50% off until (I think) January 10. Don't delay, sign up today, and see you at the start line!

*tap tap tap...is this mic on??*

There are a zillion (yes, its a real measurable amount; just ask Bill Gates) reasons why I love Detroit. Its not just because I'm from the area or that I'm blessed with a zillion (again) amazing, friends and family here. Its because for me, personally, Detroit is a really magical place. When I was growing up, we went into the city for Tigers and Red Wings games. When I got old enough to ride my bike and/or navigate the bus system, my friends and I would go downtown, and I was literally amazed. All this incredible architecture! So much history! So much to love!! But like a lot of Michigan kids, I went to school out of state and thanks to the economy at the time, ended up living in Washington, DC. WDC is a nice enough place, I mean, its great to run in, not so great to live in. Anyhoo, once I started going back to Detroit a few times each year I'd treat myself to immersion city tours to really get to know the place. Well, in September 2010 I finally bit the bullet and moved back. Since that day, I have not regretted the decision for one minute.

I spend a LOT of time running around the streets and meeting the neighbors and neighborhoods that make up the city. There are a heck of a lot of cool people with amazing stories to share and the interesting thing is, everyone has something to say. I hope to use this blog to keep everyone up to date on what is going on here in Detroit and to share positive stories since the media finds that aspect of our city boring.

For those of you in the area, while most museums are closed today, if you are looking for something fun and interesting to do, the Detroit Historical Museum is open and free tomorrow:

1/11/11

No better time to start thinking about the future of my fair city than 1/1/11. I think all the ones are a sign of wonderful things to come. Best wishes for a wonderful, amazing new year to all my friends, family and loved ones. Be safe and MAKE IT HAPPEN! I am registered for three half marathons so far this year but plan to add about another 17 races to the list. :)
